Graham Rendell (UK) – System Consultant

Mr. Graham has started work with the BBC in Chiswick, London in their Equipment Department.

Later moved to a private company, Michael Cox Electronics, designing and manufacturing broadcast television equipment for studio facilities around the world.

Then he started his own business in much the same field and expanding it to manufacturing various interfaces and communications products and providing specialist facilities for television productions, moving over to working as a freelance broadcast engineer around 1992.

Around this time he worked on several “adventure” TV shows for Chatsworth TV in the UK. As overall engineering manager for the broadcast equipment and the studio installations.

He worked on most of the international cricket tournaments from about 1995 to 2010 in the West Indies and South Asia for TWI / IMG television as the onsite engineering manager. Many venues at that time did not have broadcast facilities up to international broadcast standards. Work involved pre-visits to the various stadiums ensuring that facilities were in place for the TV equipment and cameras including power and A/C.  He worked closely with the cricket boards and venues to improve their broadcast facilities over the years.

As broadcast television contracts changed over the years he provided the same support to the Dubai based Ten Sports broadcaster, mainly in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. In around 2007/8 he was asked by Ten Sports to assist in the planning of the broadcast facilities for the Dubai cricket stadium in Sports city. This involved several visits to the architects and later site visits. The stadium is now one of the few cricket stadiums to be pre-wired with broadcast camera and audio cables.

The largest cricket project he was involved with at this time was the Cricket World Cup 2007 in the West Indies for which he was the overall broadcast engineering manager.  This was an international tournament played across 9 countries in 12 stadiums. From around 2003 until the event in 2007 he was again involved with architects and the cricket boards as a broadcast facilities consultant. Several stadiums were completely rebuilt and the others were upgraded.  He was involved with all aspects of the broadcast engineering at all the venues including the power arrangements, telecommunications and the A/C.  The main challenge being the fact that the tournament was spread over so many countries, each with their own cricket boards.

For the 2011 cricket World cup Mr. Graham was also involved in some of the stadium refurbishments and new builds in Sri Lanka as he was regularly working in the area for Taj TV / Ten Sports. For the 2015 cricket world cup he was a unit manager for the unit covering the New Zealand matches and for 2019 cricket world cup he was unit manager for several venues around the UK.

In 2008 he was approached to work on the prestigious Indian IPL cricket tournament for the then host broadcaster Sony Entertainment. He worked on this project for the first 10 years.  Covering 11 venues over 8 weeks, the length and breadth of India was a challenge.

A side from cricket, he also worked for HBO Sports on their coverage of the Wimbledon tennis championships in West London for 10 or so tournaments in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Work involved the installation and maintenance of the broadcast equipment as well as the design and supply of some custom equipment for the graphics area. He was also responsible for the radio communications facilities on site. Other projects include
all the Summer and Winter Olympics since 1992
